Contraaaaaaa

Many contraversial issues are brought into Brave New World. The fact that the world's original history can not be taught how it is now adays is an extreme strong thing that seems to really (I guess you could say) antagonize. Our world would be no where if we didn't know about our history and universe's past, however the people in 'Brave New World' have a different view."'These,' he said gravely, 'are unpleasant facts; I know it. But then most historical facts are." (Ch. 2)
Also just the fact of drug use is a big issue, because compared to now drugs are looked at and frowned upon but in the book it seems to be a dependent neccessity (soma) for everyone to live a happy life. If you look at the world now, people who smoke to make them happy is completely illegal.
Cloning, although in the book it isn't directly looked at as that, is an issue too. Cloning now is still being researched and has both it's positive views but in BNW, it seems like there is no indivituality and everyone is created and designed to function just the same

Perfect Utopia

My perfect utopia is basically ideal and i guess generally could speak for everyone.

NO:

• Terror
• Rape
• Abuse
• Kidnapping
• Trafficing
• Hardcore drugs that take your life
• Suffering
• Atomic bombs
• Worthless/Not being good enough feeling
• One-sided people -it's good to stand out for what you believe but wrong to shut out and force your opinions down others throats

War without hate (more of war with reason/something worth fighting for rather then to just kill) People say fighting doesn't solve anything but sometimes that's all we have to thrive off. If that makes sense? I think it's makes more sense to say an arm for an arm, what you do you deserve back - when people attack you, you need self defense, got to protect yourself you have to do what you have to do.

-can't exactly say no heartbreaks, no fights, and no pain- I mean let's be real here, no one likes the feeling of any of that but would you rather just be a happy emotionless zombie? Those are the things that actually give us some feeling, let us know we are still breathing at the end of the day; make your skin tougher, making you less naive and wiser.

I've heard nothing but great things about "The Glass Castle" and I'm seriously coming to believe them. Every page has been filled with something completely wild, and not expected that it just makes me keep wanting to turn page after page. I'm honestly suprised that it's a memoir because some of the stuff is just so out of the ordinary and unbelievable that I have to remind myself this is completely true. For example, "...we took a sharp turn over some railroad tracks, the door flew open, and I tumbled out the of car. I rolled several yards...I lifted my head to watch the Green Caboose get smaller and smaller and then disappear around the bend." (Jeannete Walls, 30) -Then it continues to talk about how she waited for her parents to come back for her, like how do you not notice your kid has flew out the car door and not stop immedietly? And even the part when their parents make all the kids, including their newborn baby sit in the back of a huge moving truck for hours in total darkness and in silence.

The thing I like most about it, is that although some of the stuff written is extremely bizarre it's also has life wisdom that is somewhat true. For example, the part where her father is teaching her to swim but keeps letting her sink, "If you don't want to sink, you better figure out how to swim." (66) I think the authors point of this novel was to tell her story, that the fact that such wierd lifestyles can equal total reality is baffling- that not everyone is the same and what they think is abnormal, well...she can blow that thought out of the water.

Okay so really I know I should've gave "In Cold Blood" a chance, but I found it really hard; that type of horror and writing of the story = not my favorite. The way he writes is just to full into detail and hard to get through in my opinion, like you have to read the same paragraph over and over again. For example, in the first chapter (I don't have my book with me at the moment- I will put a quote when I get home) but the way he describes the setting is too much. Don't get me wrong it's good to have some detail but to the point where your making something that should be maybe ten lines fourty? Enough is enough, say it already! However, although it's full of detail it's basically a small shade of the truth of a some things that aren't even true. If you're writing a story about a true event I think it's only right to write what happened and what happened only- the truth and nothing but the truth!

What are the benefits of taking a true account and writing it in a fictional way?
-Everyone knows that by adding a little of your own spice to a story and small details that didn't really happen can make for a better more juicy story.

What are the negatives?
-It's a lie and somewhat offensive to others! You get some guy who knows nothing about the family or the killers coming down to your town and poking his nose where it doesn't belong and then adding in some lies to make for a better story is offensive especially to those who knew the family or what really happened.

Who knew that J.D. Salinger used basic concepts from his life to help him write his own award winning novel "Catcher and the Rye"? As I did a little research, I came across quite a few similarities between the two. One obvious relationship between the main character J.D. Salinger himself attended private schools for some time and he too had a hard time adjusting- just like Holden's character in "Catcher in the Rye". It was said in an article "He left the school after only one semester. Obviously an intelligent and sensitive man, Salinger apparently did not respond well to the structure and rigors" much like how Holden couldn't deal with the way schools were run. Besides small similarities like that, there was on thing that really stood out to me. Both Holden and Salinger suffered through life with some type of scarring/changing experience. After the death of his brother, Holden could not cope with it and it changed the way he lived/acted/thought for basically the rest of his life. I'm sure Holden never really thought about life after death or death itself until his brother died. "Boy, when you're dead, they really fix you up. I hope to hell when I do die somebody has sense enough to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetery. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody." It's said the J.D. Salinger entered the army during World War 2 and although it is not said that he had problems or differences in his life afterwards- a thing like being part of the army and being out on the field and fighting for your country, seeing people die, etc. most likely had to have an effect on Salingers life in some way whether it be attitude, perspectives, etc.
